Gabbeh loom carpets are woven by hand in the city of Bhadohi, India. The carpets are woven on a special loom using a modern weaving technique that enables the weaver to work with precision and efficiency. Without having to compromise the quality, the end result is a price worthy and affordable carpet. The wool used in Gabbeh loom carpets is of very good quality which not only makes the carpets robust and durable, but also soft and comfortable to walk on. Using this modern weaving method loops are woven to form the pile, thereby giving the carpet the same appearance as a hand-knotted carpet. The sole restriction is the level of details the technique allows for, but this simply serves to channel the creativity of the weaver.
Beautifully crafted carpets with modern Gabbeh designs are possible to weave, and Gabbeh loom carpets with both plain and simpler geometric patterns and colour combinations are widely available. A Gabbeh loom carpet can definitely be an affordable alternative to a hand-knotted carpet and beautifully enhances the floor or space in which it is placed.
