Gabbeh Indo carpets are hand-knotted in workshops around India. The carpets fetch much of their inspiration from the Persian Gabbeh carpets and are appreciated for their simple and minimalistic patterns and overall rustic charm. Gabbeh Indo carpets have a relatively coarse and thick pile, which makes them very robust and popular for use in both homes and offices. The wool used in the carpets is generally of good quality although it is not as good as in the Persian Gabbeh counterparts. As a result, an Indian Gabbeh carpet will be much stiffer and coarser to the touch and tend to have less colour variation. This should however not be a reason to dismiss an Indian Gabbeh carpet. Gabbeh Indo carpets are very beautiful and durable carpets and a great investment carpet that can be used for many years when properly cared for.
