China has a long and outstanding tradition of carpets and the art of carpet making dates back as far as the 15th century. The designs and patterns were originally inspired from Chinese porcelains, landscapes, majestic dragons and other religious symbols. The patterns in China carpets are generally clipped in relief which gives them that typical three-dimensional appearance they are so famous for. Chinese carpets are made from soft wool and tend to have a rather thick and dense pile. They are very strong and sturdy and yet at the same time very soft and comfortable to walk on. China is also home to more exclusive silk carpets that are knotted entirely in silk. These carpets are extremely rare on the market and sometimes even have elements of pure gold threads in them. China silk carpets have a very high knot density and are largely inspired by patterns from ancient Persian carpet art.
