Koliai carpets, sometimes also referred to as Songor carpets are named after the Koliai tribes people from Koliai and its surrounding villages in Sonqor county, western Iran. These people are a Kurdish minority of Iran and are known to be great carpet weavers. In the past the carpets were mostly made for personal use and used as floor coverings, blankets or saddle covers, but due to their impressive designs and attractive colours they grew to become appreciated trade goods. Koliai carpets used to be made entirely of wool, but nowadays cotton is mostly used in the warp. The geometric patterns and subtle colour schemes make these carpets very popular and suitable for a range of interior styles.
The carpets tend to be rather long which also makes them a great choice for larger rooms and longer corridors. The carpets are characterized by a rather high pile and are almost always firmly knotted which makes them very robust and price worthy. If properly cared for, a Koliai carpet can last for generations.
Patina
Our collection of Patina carpets is comprised of older Persian carpets that all show signs of natural wear and ageing. The carpets are carefully selected with the intention of preserving their cultural heritage and breathing new life into them. All our Patina carpets are washed before undergoing a thorough inspection. If any signs of damage are found these are attended to, and if the pile is unevenly trimmed it is gently polished down to achieve an even pile and add a natural sheen to the carpet.
The result is a one-of-a-kind carpet that still possesses all the qualities of an older hand-knotted carpet. A beautiful carpet with a genuine feel that has intentionally been allowed to retain a distinct patina appearance: to be discovered and admired by yet another generation to come.
