Najafabad Patina (Fragment)

The city of Najafabad is situated in central Iran, just west of the old Persian capital, Isfahan. The small city might not enjoy as worldly a reputation as it’s famous neighbour, but nevertheless produces extremely durable carpets made with premium quality wool.

Najafabad carpets fetch much of their inspiration from the neighboring cities of Isfahan and Keshan. The carpets are characterised by their curvilinear patterns and often feature medallions in warm and vibrant tones of red and blue as well as more subtle tones of ivory, beige, pale blue and khaki green. The weavers use the Persian knot, which allows for great precision. The designs tend to be symmetrical and well balanced, with a beautiful striking contrast between the central field and the borders.

Najafabad carpets tend to come in medium and larger sizes of 200x300 cm and more. This makes them a great choice for decorating larger rooms and spaces. A classical Najafabad carpet in a modern environment can provide both exquisite contrast and a genuine, well-balanced overall feel.

All our Patina carpets are washed before undergoing a thorough inspection. If any signs of damage are found these are attended to, and if the pile is unevenly trimmed it is gently polished down to achieve an even pile and add a natural sheen to the carpet.

The result is a one-of-a-kind carpet that still possesses all the qualities of an older hand-knotted carpet. A beautiful carpet with a genuine feel that has intentionally been allowed to retain a distinct patina appearance: to be discovered and admired by yet another generation to come.

Fragment
