The city of Yazd is located halfway between Isfahan and Kerman, in the centre of Iran. This historical city is famous for its beautiful architecture, quality carpets and delicious confectionaries. Carpets have been made here for over 400 years and the city was one of the earliest carpet weaving sites granted by the royal workshop of the Safavid Dynasty.
Yazd carpets are strongly influenced by both Kerman and Keshan carpet designs and it is common to find Yazd carpets with open field designs and floral borders that resemble Kerman carpets, as well as carpets with one big central medallion that look like typical Keshan carpets. Yazd carpets are famous for their detailed floral designs and often come in deep purple and red, natural vegetable dye colour tones. Madder is cultivated in the desert surrounding the city of Yazd and madder root is used as a natural dye for the different shades of red. The carpets have a cotton warp and a thick, slightly higher soft woolen pile.
Yazd carpets are appreciated for their high quality and refined craftsmanship and are an excellent quality/price investment.
