Description
Birjand carpets are knotted by hand in the city of Birjand, which is located in the South Khorasan Province of Iran.
The carpets are typically made of wool and cotton, and in some carpets silk is incorporated to accentuate the finer details. The wool used in Birjand carpets is sourced from local sheep, which are known for producing a high quality wool that is both durable and resilient.
The carpets bear a strong resemblance to Moud carpets, but in comparison, Birjand carpets are generally more intricate and detailed in their designs. This is due to the fact that Birjand carpets generally have a higher knot count than Moud carpets, allowing for the creation of finer details.
While Moud carpets also feature geometric and floral patterns, they tend to be more subdued in their colour schemes and overall aesthetic. Birjand carpets usually come in larger sizes and can beautifully adorn a larger room or space such as a dining room, library or reception area.
