Ardekan carpets are knotted in and around the city of Ardekan (Ardakan), situated in the northwestern corner of the Yazd province. The area is one of the most rooted carpet making areas of the country and was historically also a center for raising camels.
Although the city of Ardekan is geographically located between the cities of Yazd and Nain, the weavers' influence comes primarily from Keshan. The carpets are knotted using the Persian asymmetrical knot and are known for their intricate geometric designs and bright colours. The designs of Ardekan carpets often include a central medallion surrounded by smaller medallions, all arranged in a symmetrical pattern.
The colours used are bold and vibrant, with reds, blues, greens, and yellows being the most common. These carpets have a classical beauty and a timeless elegance and when properly cared for, they can last for many years.
Patina
Our collection of Patina carpets is comprised of older Persian carpets that all show signs of natural wear and ageing. The carpets are carefully selected with the intention of preserving their cultural heritage and breathing new life into them. All our Patina carpets are washed before undergoing a thorough inspection. If any signs of damage are found these are attended to, and if the pile is unevenly trimmed it is gently polished down to achieve an even pile and add a natural sheen to the carpet.
The result is a one-of-a-kind carpet that still possesses all the qualities of an older hand-knotted carpet. A beautiful carpet with a genuine feel that has intentionally been allowed to retain a distinct patina appearance: to be discovered and admired by yet another generation to come.
